My 2.5 year old daughter has started potty training, and I guess it is going well. :)
She knows all the steps:
- Pull down pants (pull-ups, diaper, underwear, whatever...)
- Walk with it at her ankle to the potty/toilet
- Sit on the potty/toilet
- DO NOTHING
- Ask/take toilet paper and wipe bottom
- Flush the toilet/cover the potty
- Wash hands
- Dry hands
A few days ago she actually defecated in the potty and told me. I did not believe her, but to my surprise there it was, poo poo in the potty! I was so excited, I cheered her on and gave her a Curious George sticker. Several minutes after she urinated in her underwear! Did I mention that she urinated on the floor while standing in front of the opened toilet another day?
I have gotten to the stage where I am tired of cleaning up urine from the floor (because I put her in underwear anticipating her using the potty). The fact that she knows the steps involved in using the potty is comforting enough that I will wait a few more months to see if she gets it fully. One thing is for sure, I will ramp up the training once the times gets closer to her 3rd birthday. I will NOT have my child left behind because she is not potty trained!
Questions:
- What have been your potty training experiences?
- What advice do you have for me and other parents going through this?
